The classic name is “layette” but I prefer to use the term – surrounding and building the child’s environment of development. We believe that each thing, each object should constitute a conscious choice and possess a specific character, as well as represent features which are going to develop your child within a given field. Each of the objects present in the child’s surrounding has an impact on its physicality, intellect, spirituality, and emotions. You have the unique possibility to decide what your child’s development environment will look like. In our opinion, the entire process of taking a newborn through the daily rituals and activities not only has to possess its own repeatable rhythm but the used attributes should also constitute a wise and logical choice thanks to which specific developmental goals are going to be achieved.

We represent a trend stating that nothing can happen by accident in the life of your child since its birth. We believe in the theory that a child learns, develops, and experiences things since the moment of conception and not only when it starts to talk or sit. In a different post we will write about stimulating and developing the child’s intelligence, since its first days, also through motion, reading, or speaking with the use of proper materials.

Some objects, which we’ve decided to surround our daughter with, were received by us as a family of the new Earth. There were many options but we’ve considered the material from which the object is made, its purpose, use, quality, innovativeness, the needs of our child, a style coherent with the concept and culture of life represented by us, as well as the place of origin and manner of manufacturing – because objects also possess their own vibration. We’ve also made a few things ourselves. For example the original “Crawling Path” for a newborn which will allow the child to develop certain parts of its brain, use Babiński’s reflex, and stimulate small motor skills. My husband prepared the hard larch wood pipe in construction and technical terms. Now we know that it would be better if it was made from lighter wood, and more mobile. I’ve painted it in stripes so that the child knows that it’s moving and makes distance by crawling. It is important in terms of the child’s self-motivation. We intend to travel with the wooden path, take the baby and path to the park or seaside, so in time we’ve attached wheels to the construction. We will describe the process concerning the path in a different post – one about the newborn’s outstanding development.

We’ve restored a few old furniture pieces for her room, such as a toy trolley or one for collecting fruits from the garden. We’ve personally made a wardrobe for her clothes from Polish birch wood collected in our garden.

We bought or received clothes from befriended companies. Those which we’ve accepted and I will be able to recommend are going to be presented in following short posts on social media profiles. We’ve decided for plant and animal designs, ones related to nature. Of course the fabric weave, stitching quality, and ecologic regions of origin were most important for us. As a clothing designer I know how important it is for the body and how it affects the mood. Now I had the chance to notice how many children clothes are illogical because of for example a fastening on the back, which is uncomfortable for the baby when sleeping.

It is very important for us that Mirijam’s surrounding is mostly natural and made from wood, wool, linen, cane, straw, bamboo, hemp fabrics, as well as natural leather and fur from various regions such as Australia, merino from South America, sheep wool from Portugal, or the Polish Podhale region.

Mari received holders, slings, blankets, nappies, rattles, chew toys, tipi, and a cradle from Hindu cotton, as well as baskets for carrying her when she’s sleeping – of course in a horizontal position because we are opposed to positioning the child upright too early. We believe that the horizontal position is the most correct one until the child itself stands up and looks at the world from that perspective.

We will show most of her room and wardrobe equipment in the following posts. Of course there will be a lot of inspirations in terms of handmade toys and those from different regions of the world, as well as books. But more on that when the time comes. Not everything at once.

We will happily see your executed ideas and specific choices made for the surroundings of your babies. Share them with us on Facebook or Instagram.
